Hot Country & Americana Music

Maynard And The Musties
‘Little Red Wagon’

I’ve been writing “sad” songs with a swingy, Country-leanin- into-American Song Book feel for a few years now, and I’ve worked up enough material to have a cohesive album, leaving nearly all rock-n-roll elements out of this album. Teaming up with the amazing thumb-picker Mark Thornton (who played with Jerry Reed for quite a few years) has really brought that texture to life, dealving into harmonic, soulful textures, rather than relying on a heavy beat, as Mark is want to do. The rest of the album’s players are also top-form Nashville cats, with Eddie Lange on steel guitar, Billy Contreras on fiddle, Heather Moulder on piano, Rebecca Weiner Tompkins on fiddle and backing vocals, Dennis Crouch on bass, and Matty Meyer holding it down on drums. Produced and Mastered by Mark Thornton at Sidekick Studios.

The mood, you ask?…Yes, I’m a loser… loser in love, loser in everything else… Looking back on my failed chances with the perspective of age and experience, I see all my faults (and everyone else’s), with perhaps a tiny hint of insignificant wisdom to show for it… and, listener, do you really want to peek into this? …Cha-cha-cha ending.

So… enjoy the ride!

Alluring vocals, top-notch instrumentation and a gritty storyline create an interesting musical palette for the listener. The new music is available for streaming and download music platforms at https://music.lnk.to/vGtE8C.

Country music has long prided itself on brilliant storytelling set to music. “When the Water’s Down” is a prime example of how a perfectly crafted song, coupled with precisely the right voices, can bring a story to life in the most entertaining way possible.

“We loved this song from the moment we heard it,” shared Girls Next Door. “It is in the great tradition of storytelling that country music is known for. It’s a story of a ‘guilty’ southern town known for its sins. In the end, no matter how hard people try to cover their wrongdoing, things usually rise to the top in the end. Using the analogy, ‘you never know what shows up when the water’s down,’ the song tells of all the secrets that surface in a river when the water’s down during a drought. The song features each member of Girls Next Door individually during the verses, culminating in a rousing chorus of harmony.

The Smith & Western Jury

“Button That Collar”

Independent

The Smith & Western Jury are a band that will make you feel like you’ve just been hit by a rolling freight train, full of heartache and happiness. An Alt-Country band from Melbourne, Australia with songs that will delight country music fans and convert punk rockers to a genre they never thought they’d consider.

With some impressive shows already under their belt, including two sold-out festivals (Meatstock BBQ Festival, Melbourne and Til The Wheels Fall Off Festival, Launceston) the
band travelled to Texas earlier this year, to record their debut album and play their first international show.

In the Summer of 2023, the band then headed overseas to Floresville, Texas to work with legendary country music producer Tommy Detamore (Jim Lauderdale, Jesse Daniel). Amongst blistering Texas heat and southern hospitality, the band laid down lush electric guitar lines and dreamy, heartfelt vocals. With a little help from Detamore on soaring pedal steel & western swing pianist Floyd Domino, (Asleep At The Wheel), the fiery album came to life in the Texas Summer. With ‘Hotel Texas’ set to be released in 2024, this album will be responsible for wearing down the needle on your favourite record player.

‘Button That Collar’ is the first single off their upcoming album. A song inspired by an old photograph that Sam found of her grandmother standing in their family-owned fruit shop. A faded washed-out photo, in an old Kodak pack. Even though her grandmother wore a smile, Sam knew there was much more to the story. Being in a complicated relationship in the 1970’s, with no escape in sight – the photo sparked this song that will take you back in time, and have you swaying without even realising it.
